Conformance status
The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) define requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. Common questions
What is an accessibility statement and do I need one?
It's a public page declaring which standard your site targets, its current status, known limitations, and how people report barriers. EU public sector bodies must publish one in a set format, and the EAA expects covered services to provide accessibility information and a feedback route. In the US it isn't mandated, but a clear statement with a working feedback channel is a recognised good-faith practice for the ADA and Section 508.
Should I say my site is "fully conformant"?
Rarely. It means every page meets every applicable criterion — hard to sustain and easy to disprove. Overstated claims have drawn regulator action, and EU law requires accuracy. Most organisations should state "partially conformant", list limitations honestly, and describe how they're closing the gap.
